A few customers have requested a W9 from Cloudbeds. This article discusses that request.
What is a W9?
The W9 form (officially, the "Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification") is used in the United States income tax system by a third party who must file an information return with the IRS.
Here is more information on W9's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_W-9
When is it used?
Form W-9 is most commonly used in a businesscontractor arrangement. Businesses can use Form W-9 to request information from contractors they hire. When a business pays a contractor at least $600 during a tax year, the business is required to file Form 1099-MISC, a variant of Form 1099. To fill out Form 1099-MISC, the business may need to request information (such as address and Tax Identification Number) from the contractor, for which Form W-9 is used. The business does not send Form W-9 to the IRS.
As a cloudbeds subscriber, do I need a W9?
No. Cloudbeds is a Corporate entity, and therefore does not require a W9 for you to pay for services. Also, we provide a service (not consulting). Since you do not have a vendor-contractor arrangement with Cloudbeds, a W9 is not needed.
I still want a W9, will Cloudbeds release it to me?
Even thought a W9 is not required, some customers still request it before making a payment. Because of this, we have included the W9 below.
